The War Bride is about a woman who marries a Canadian Soldier and then he goes to war. She has his baby then has to go and live with his family. This is similar to our film as it looks at the affects of the women left behind and the effects and emotions when the man returns from war.
The film starts with an elderly man reading a love story from a notebook to a fellow female patient. It then goes to flashbacks of a relationship between a man and a woman. Our film follows the same themes of having love, loosing it then discovering it again.
From researching I have found that the common conventions for a romance is that they couple that are in love get together in the end and it ends happily, like the audience are hoping, or in other cases such as Atonement, they don't end up together.
Many dramas such as Pride and Prejudice and I capture the Castle and Atonement all start with a black screen and gradually fade in and then music gradually comes on as well, from these three that I have analysed it seems that this is a common convention when using slow-paced editing.
All these films are dramas and all have well-known British casts as they were created by Working Title and BBC films. Also another thing that these films have in common is that they were all books before they got turned into films.
